Voices of Hope Through the Arts
Where: Abode Studios 2204 Skidaway Rd.
When: August 11, 6:30pm-8:00pm
Voices of Hope Through the Arts is an evening of art and music to inspire, soothe and stimulate your soul, giving Hope in this divisive era we live in.
Each month one local artist and musician will share their story and fill our senses with their music and art. There will be tastes of drinks and delicious nibbles. Come mix and mingle, or find a quiet corner to listen and relax and enjoy our artist community.
Voices of Hope Through the Arts is a fundraiser for the International School of Story, specifically raising funds for our Community Fellowship Table. Here our diverse community will break bread together. We will serve a weekly meal, start real conversations about challenging topics, connect, listen and learn about each other, share stories where God made what seems impossible possible. Fostering respect, leading to love, giving hope to all, experiencing that together we are stronger. Funds raised will be used to purchase our canopy tent, tables, chairs, equipment and food.
This month of August our featured Artist is Ashton Greene. Ashton wanted to be an artist since she can remember. "When I was 11 my art teacher told me that I thought like a graphic designer, and I took that to heart. I studied advertising design at SCAD and worked in the industry in NYC for a short time. I quickly realized ad life wasn’t for me. After working both in art galleries and as a nanny, I now work as the director of marketing and design for a children’s book brand. My personal art gives me refuge from the “have-to” creative tasks that permeate my day-to-day. In my studio, I process life. There are no rules other than to do and to be. In my art, I often explore the divine in the mundane, mantra work, and the human form. But as I said, there are no rules, so every new day in the studio presents a new opportunity to create outside the box".
You will have the opportunity to meet Ashton, see and purchase her art!
Our August Musician is Lauren McLeod. Lauren McLeod's passion for music began at the age of 5 when she remembers lying under her mom’s piano bench listening to her play Debussy’s Arabesque. She grew up taking piano, guitar, and voice lessons and sang in various honors choirs through high school. At age 16, she began playing guitar and singing background vocals with her mom’s band. She also led worship for multiple services at her home church, Chapel Springs Assembly of God in Manassas, VA. Her first 5-song EP was recorded with Matt Williams in Germantown, MD which led to two singles with Ed Cash in Nashville, TN. Lauren formed her own 5 piece band and did shows around Northern VA/DC then moved to Cleveland TN where she got her Bachelors in Music Business, vocal emphasis. She has opened for Shane and Shane and sung on Charles Stanley’s Christmas show. Lauren then recorded and released her second EP, Sunshine Girl, in 2015. She moved to Savannah, GA in 2016 and continues to do live performances locally.
You will have the joy of sitting back, glass in hand, nibbles on plate and be mesmerized by Lauren's pure voice.
This month we will have a wine tasting, by Lisa Brantley Yannett, along with delightful chartreuse platters and nibbles.
